How to remove McAfee Agent?

Removing McAfee agent requires some tweaks. You cannot uninstall it with the regular uninstall button.

When you do that you will get this error.

Why? It simply  says what it says. That the Agent is running in managed mode. So how do we get McAfee Agent out of managed mode? In this article I will show you how to change to unmanaged mode and remove McAfee agent.

First, open the windows command line and navigate to the McAfee folder. This is usually located on "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)". Mine is in "C:\Program Files (x86)". The complete path of the executable file we will use is this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\Common Framework\

and the complete command to run along with the parameters is this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\Common Framework\maconfig.exe -provision -unmanaged

Now this will run a bunched of stuff on the screen. But will tell if it finished.

Now go back to Programs and Features and uninstall McAfee Agent.

It will push through the uninstallation process until it completes. McAfee Agent now gone!
